Okay First thing is I am a guy, no only a guy but a country guy so Beef has always been what's for dinner along with anything fried or drenched in gravy. That's how a redneck rolls! :)Well after eating like a swine for 50+ years it takes it's toll on you so as a last ditch effort to alter my course (Navigation was set to the grave) and see if I could help with some of my medical issues I gave it a shot.OMG!!!! It works, no if's no and's and no but's, it works 100% as advertised and I am cheating on the diet like crazy.So first off, eating as much as I have been should not be called a diet. I eat more than I did before the diet and in less than 2 weeks I have lost 8lbs, I am never hungry and the snacks all came to a stop because I am full all the time and weight is melting off me like candle wax.I am an old cook so I have not even tried the recipes in the book yet, just avoiding all the don't eat stuff (except cheating and eating them anyways a couple times a week) and eating loads of fruits and veggies with nutritional yeast.What made me try it besides failing health and organs due to poor dietary habits? I saw Dr. Fuhrman on PBS and his nutrient over calorie explanation made such perfect sense. From 251lbs to 239 in 10 days and eating like a horse, now that's a plan I can stick too and the health benefits are already starting to show. Blood pressure took such a drop that I get headaches due to the lack of blood pressure but it is improving.Give it a shot. The worse that could happen is you will live another 20 years in health and enjoying life.
July 2, 2018 I decided to tackle my weight (once again) so I returned to Weight Watchers and still attend every week for their accountable weigh-in and group support. But while I was losing at a "reasonable" rate and was tracking my intake, I struggled with food cravings so severe that I knew I would not be successful over time if I didn't find a way to quell them.Enter the "Nutritarian" diet by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. On the very first full day of this program my appetite just dropped away -- I couldn't believe it. I would get hungry but could actually hold off eating till I felt like having a meal -- I didn't NEED to eat THIS VERY MINUTE! I was amazed at how the body responds when it receives high-nutrient foods. For that alone, I was/am most grateful because that indicated that I could go the long haul to lose 30 pounds and then see how "wide" I could eat to maintain my weight loss.The amazing thing is that while it is not easy to eat in non-vegan restaurants on this program, I found a restaurant willing to work with me (because I come in often and I tip great). I would sit at the bar (a fun place for a single diner) in my local seafood restaurant and be served a large salad with no dressing and a serving of plain pistachio nuts.I am not on a 6-week program but I am experimenting with following this program for several weeks and probably longer as I am getting such great results -- no hunger or cravings! and I lost 3 pounds in just six days this past week -- here, here! I am an older, short female and that's a high rate of return for my efforts.Looking ahead, if I could eat Whole Foods on a Plant-based Diet most of the time and have up to one glass of wine a day and eat from 8 to 10 ounces of grass-fed beef, or organic chicken, or wild-caught seafood a week (if I wanted it), I think this program is livable -- and I'm sure the physical rewards in terms of improved health and fitness are well worth it. Our grandparents only ate animal protein very infrequently because it was so expensive back in those days (and it was a better product back then unless carefully sourced in today's times).NO CRAVINGS! Also called FOOD FREEDOM! Imagine sitting at the bar and watching the bartender mix exotic looking cocktails and pouring wines and serving Lobster Mac and Cheese and while remembering what they taste like, NOT physically craving them -- fabulously physically comfortable is what I've experienced and I believe that when I have been on this program for some time I will look my best -- I've seen signs of that already!I've been watching videos of the various doctors who promote a plant-based diet and Dr. Joel Fuhrman seems to ring very true to me (so do many of the other doctors who promote a plant-based diet but I wanted to begin my books on the subject with Dr. Fuhrman's work).I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK to establish or regain your health and wellness.
